1. TURN OFF YOUR WIFI AT NIGHT

Your body enters its deepest state of healing during sleep. This is when growth hormone peaks, tissues repair, and the immune system resets.

Ongoing EMF exposure during this time may interfere with these natural processes, which is why reducing exposure at night is especially important. Creating a low EMF sleep environment supports deeper rest, recovery, and overall healing.

Simple ways to reduce exposure:

  • Program your WiFi router to turn off automatically.

  • Use a mechanical timer to automatically power down your router at nightime.

2. TURN YOUR PHONE OFF OR USE AIRPLANE MODE

 

​Your phone is constantly emitting electromagnetic radiation, even when idle.

 

Best practices:

  • Turn your phone off completely at night.

  • Or use airplane mode if needed.

  • Keep your phone at least 3 feet away from your body, or ideally in another room. We do not recommend sleeping beside your SMART phone.

    • Use a battery operated alarm clock instead of your cell phone.

    • If you need your phone on for emergencies, keep it in another room with the ringer turned up.

    • However, a landline with a low EMF corded phone is still the best option. They are sold HERE.

Research from the HeartMath Institute suggests the heart generates the body’s strongest electromagnetic field, extending several feet beyond the body and interacting with both your internal state and surrounding environment. This is all the more reason to keep devices as far away from your body as possible and to limit your use of wireless technology.

 
 
 
 
3. AVOID BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES & AIRPODS

Wireless earbuds place EMFs directly into your ear canals, very close to your brain and nervous system.

 

Better alternatives:

  • Use wired air-tube headphones. They are sold HERE.

  • Use speakerphone or handsfree on your cell phone whenever possible.

A 2024 study highlighted by Environmental Health Trust found a significant association between prolonged daily use of Bluetooth headsets and an increased risk of thyroid nodules. The research identified usage duration as one of the strongest contributing factors, suggesting that long term, close range exposure to non ionizing radiation may have cumulative effects on thyroid health, and reinforcing the importance of mindful, limited use of wireless devices.

 

4. CREATE A LOW-EMF SLEEP ENVIRONMENT

Even when electrical devices are turned off, if they are plugged into the wall, they will still emit electric fields.

 

This includes:

  • Lamps. However, they can be plugged into a shielded power bar that can be switched off completely.

  • Alarm clocks. Opt for a battery operated low blue light option if possible or set your SMART phone alarm and place your phone in a faraday bag like this one HERE. The alarm should still work but you won't receive any incoming calls or texts. This is also a great way to carry your phone on your person while avoiding being exposed to cell phone radiation.

  • Keep all extension cords away from your bed.

  • Power bars. Only use shielded power bars like this one HERE especially in the bedroom area.

Tip: If you do not want to make the changes listed above then keep all powered devices at least 4 feet away from your bed.

5. RETHINK BABY MONITORS

Wireless baby monitors emit continuous radiofrequency radiation, often operating day and night near a child’s sleeping area. According to Environmental Health Trust, this close and prolonged exposure is a concern, especially since infants are more vulnerable due to their developing brains and bodies.

The article also highlights that many parents are unaware these devices are constantly transmitting, and that even manufacturers recommend keeping them at a distance from the body. Precautionary steps such as increasing distance, reducing overall wireless exposure, or choosing wired alternatives can help minimize potential risks. 6. KEEP EMF RADIATING DEVICES OFF YOUR BODY
 

Laptops, tablets, and smartphones emit EMFs continuously, especially when in direct contact with your body.

 

Avoid:

  • Placing a laptops or tablet directly on your lap.

  • Carrying your phones directly in your pocket or bra.

  • Using your phone or any of the wireless devices listed above for a prolonged period of time.

  • Opt to use a hardwired computer instead of a wireless device like a phone or tablet when you need to spend hours on the internet or for work, however there are also way to use these devices wired with an ethernet adapter which you can find HERE.

 
7. PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE INSIDE OUT

This may contribute to a range of symptoms that are often difficult to identify or trace back to a single cause. Additionally, since these signals are not something the body has historically adapted to recognize, some individuals, particularly those with electrohypersensitivity (EHS), may experience a variety of related symptoms.
